The elder futhark, or runes, are an ancient germanic alphabet used during the Viking age.
As well as being a literal alphabet, runes are considered to hold power, and symbolize inherent qualities and values associated with the deities and magick of the Norse mythos.
 
Each rune contains three aspects:
 
• the symbol itself, what the shape represents
 
• the name and what the word means, along with its letter value and sound
 
• the energy and spirit embodied by the rune.
 
Today, the runes are utilized as a tool for self awareness, divination, spell work, and other forms of magickal practice.
